Château Tanunda was established in 1890 and started what is now over a century old tradition of fine wine making. ‘The Château’ is a heritage icon, the grand buildings, magnificent gardens and vineyards are owned by the Geber family who continue the century old tradition of fine wine making.
The grapes for this year’s The Chateau Cabernet Sauvignon were grown on the sandy loam soils of blocks 12 and 16 of our Bethany vineyard which was first planted in 1960.
The grapes come from Chateau Tanunda's Bethany vineyard, planted in '60, and were open-fermented and basket-pressed; the wine spent two years in new and used French oak. The colour is excellent, and the wine is absolutely flooded with sweet cassis, redcurrant and plum fruit; just needs a little more emphasis on the finish.
Rating 92 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2014
Colour
The Château’ Cabernet Sauvignon displays deep, rich purple and red hues.
Aroma/Palate
The bouquet has lifted aromas of blackcurrant, redcurrant and spice on the velvety smooth palate with hints of cedar and mint. The extensive finish is framed by elegant, fine-grained tannins from two years’ maturation in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels.
Cellaring Potential
8 -10 years
