Overview

The 2012 Crabtree Bay Of Biscay rosé is produced from the Crabtree Estate 1946 planted Grenache vineyard block situated in the heart of the Watervale district in the Clare Valley.

Our vineyard is known as the “Bay Of Biscay” vineyard due to the soil type being of that name. Bay of Biscay soil is a heavy sticky, black clay that holds moisture well. Not ideal for red winemaking but ideal for our Rose`.

The fruit was handpicked, sorted and retained on skins for 48 hours to ensure full flavour and a distinctive blush hue.

The 2012 vintage in the Clare Valley with its warm start to the ripening period, has been noted as producing wines full of flavour and this Rosé is no exception.

Expert Reviews

Pale pink, bright; savoury aromas of fennel and bramble are offset by the presence of light red fruits; dry and chalky on the palate, with a little amaro twist providing added freshness to the finish. Rating 90 - Drink by 2014 - Ben Edwards, Australian Wine Companion (MAR/2013)

Winery Profile

5 Star rated from James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion 2013

Wine industry executives Richard Woods and Rasa Fabian purchased Crabtree in 2007 and left Sydney corporate life for the ultimate seachange. Collectively, they had decades of sales and marketing experience, and remain adamant that Crabtree should be an estate brand, and therefore limited in volume. Kerri Thompson (from Wines by KT) is a highly talented and very experienced winemaker, having a great record with Riesling.
