Haut-Médoc A.C., 3eme Cru Classé

Moulin La Lagune is the second wine of Chateau La Lagune. From vine to bottling, the Moulin La Lagune is prepared with the very same concern for perfection as the Chateau La Lagune.

Only the blend and care vary somewhat. Indeed, the Moulin is a very pleasing wine from its earliest years, an easy-to-drink wine.

Quite often, the wines from young grapevines are best suited.

Winery Tasting Notes

The Moulin is a little richer in Merlot than the Chateau La Lagune, about 40%. There is also Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot to give the wine a melted woody taste, barrelling including 30% to 40% new wood, and lasts for 12 months.

Deep garnet colour.

Elegant aromas of blackberries, plum, cedar and a touch of mint.

On the palate the wine shows flavours of dark plum, coffee, cigar and a touch of clove. Supple, rounded mouthfeel.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Chateau La Lagune, named ‘3rd Growth’ in the 1855 classification, was purchased in 1961 by Champagne Ayala and now by M. Jean-Jacques Frey.

Significant investment has been made in the winemaking facilities and vineyards. Innovations (a system which avoids harsh pumping for example) complement tradition (indigenous yeast, pre-fermentation maceration, separating press wine, as examples) which result in wines, whilst retaining the usual cepage of 50% to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% to 30% Merlot and an unusually high balance of Petit Verdot, have extraction and weight yet remain very stylish and with suggestions of Pomerol-like richness.
