Expert Reviews

A sleek version, offering lively acidity and flavors of poached apple, whole-grain toast and blackcurrant, with hints of toasted almond and lemon zest. Drink now through 2018. 20,000 cases made. Rating 90 - Wine Spectator (30/NOV/2013)

Winery Tasting Notes

Appearance/Aroma

The translucent, deep golden colour of the Champagne Monthuys Brut gives way to initial aromas that are elegant and pure. These are complemented by succulent notes of apple, peach and apricot.

Palate

In the mouth, this very well-balanced champagne is complex and round. The aftertaste is long, with hints of dried fruits.

Grays Tasting Panel Review

Yuko Frost

Bright deep golden colour and streaming small bubbles. Intense aromas of fuji apple, lemon peel, brioche on the nose. On the palate it shows lively high acidity, intense and vibrant fruits flavours of ripe red apple, lemon curd and a slight slatey characteristic. Chalky texture, generous, rich mouthfeel and a very long finish. This is such a pleasant, great value champagne. I would drink this with fig and goat cheese canapé or pear/cherry pastries. Brand Profile Image

Champagne Monthuys is owned by family Baron.

Since the 17th. Century, Family Baron cultivate vineyards as grape grower, in Champagne vineyard district. The entire harvest was then sold to the negociants from Epernay and Reims.

In 1966 Mr. Gabriel Baron decided to vinify by himself and produce its own bottles of champagne.

The first bottles were produced and marketed directly to private customers and to local restaurants. The company kept on developing year after year.

Today, family Baron owns 38 hectares of vineyards and is settled in the village of Charly-Sur- Marne, on the Westside of the Marne valley. The best grapes and champagne are dedicated to make Champagne Monthuys, which starts being more and more famous on export markets.
