A dry spring and summer was followed with a small hit of rain 2 weeks prior to picking. This allowed the fruit to further develop intense flavours in balance with the acid and sugar. In turn, individual vines were identified and hand-picked in the optimum flavour profile window. Gently pressed and fermented slowly in controlled conditions to maintain the fruit purity, enabled us to make a truly exceptional expression of Clare Valley Riesling.

Winery Tasting Notes

Light yellow with green hues.

The unrivalled elegance and pristine fruit profile are very indicative of the vintage. Rich and supple fresh lime and white peach are all prominent with secondary aromas of mineral and blossom.

Energy and depth. Our 2016 Superstition Riesling shows a complexity that ensures a lingering presence of flavour. Lemon butter, lime flesh and hints of citrus are all pulled together with natural (no added) acid. This creates a balanced and integrated palate weight. 100% Free run with no added fining gives the wine texture and substance without hindering on the pure and delicate flavours that dictated picking in the vineyard.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Claymore Wines, situated in the beautiful Clare Valley in South Australia, began in 1997 with small volumes of Grenache and Riesling, and has now grown to almost 15,000 cases per year across a highly awarded range of wines.

We draw fruit from our five premium estate owned vineyards at Penwortham (the backbone of our red wine production) and Watervale (home to our Joshua Tree vineyard). These sites have been specifically chosen for their suitability for our staple varieties – Shiraz, Riesling, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Our labelling is inspired by some of the great music of modern time - from rock, punk and folk. Our wines are about bringing together great passions to create the ultimate experience. We pride ourselves on meticulous winemaking using only the best fruit, but when it comes to enjoying a glass we don't take ourselves too seriously! So turn up the volume on a soundtrack of your choice, crack a bottle with friends, and relax.
