Winery Tasting Notes
The colour is inky black with purple and magenta edges and long viscous legs indicating high alcohol ripeness.
The bouquet jumps out of the glass with lovely new American oak caressing blackberry, plums and dark cherry fruit. The aroma is sweet and rich with earthy spices delivering complexity and sophistication. There is a savoury character with hints of licorice and olives.
Plums and berries are obvious on entry then the palate builds with licorice, tobacco and leather overtones. An assertive wine with plump juicy tannins and spicy oak it has a background of dusty pepper and spice. Balanced and long on the finish, it has a velvety texture and chocolaty aftertaste.
This is a big wine for hearty cuisine. Slow roast casseroles, thick juicy steaks and rich game dishes are excellent while firm cheeses and water crackers are ideal after the meal.
