Expert Reviews

Vibrant hue; a generous offering of sweet red fruits, supported by a touch of Provençal herbs for complexity; very fleshy mid-palate, there is real depth to the fruit in this wine, signing off with a slight savoury finish; classic. Rating 95 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Edition 2011

Winemaking Note

The predominant parcel of grapes featured in this wine are sourced from vines planted in 1961. The resultants berries from these bush vines are extremely small and develop thick skins that are crammed full of concentrated flavour, colour and tannin.

Each vineyard parcel was hand harvested and then fermented separately in open fermenters for 8 days to facilitate a long slow gentle extraction. After basket pressing, the free run and pressing fractions were combined together. The wine was aged in 2 to 4 year old French oak on lees to encourage complexity, mouth feel and tannin integration whilst still preserving the varietal purity of the variety.
