Overview

The 2010 IL Vescovo Pinot Grigio displays lycees, fresh basil, lime and lemongrass flavours underpinned by a lingering crunchy palate. We have opted for a drier style, as this in combination with the textural mouth feel allows the variety to showcase its nuances as well as ensuring that the wine can be enjoyed in partnership with food.

Expert Reviews

Attractive and positive pear and apple aromas; as much gris as grigio, but these are elastic terms; flavoursome and quite soft. Rating 90 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Edition 2011

Winemaking Notes

The grapes were hand harvested and then promptly delivered to the winery where they were immediately processed. Our philosophy was to avoid both skin contact and maceration of the grapes. This is to minimise the extraction of any undesirable colour and phenolics. Subsequently the crusher was by-passed and whole berries were loaded into the membrane press. The press was then run on a delicate cycle and the free run fraction was isolated at 558 litres per tonne. A slow gradual cool ferment was then followed by eight months on yeast lees to encourage the integration of the fruit flavours with the textured palate.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

A leading medium-sized winery in the region. In 2000 Chapel Hill was sold to the Swiss Thomas Schmidheiny group, which owns the respected Cuvaison winery in California as well as vineyards in Switzerland and Argentina. Wine quality is as good, if not better, than ever. Winemaker Michael Fragos was named Winemaker of the Year at London's International Wine & Spirit Competition '08. The production comes from the estate plantings of shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, verdelho, savagnin, sangiovese and merlot, together with purchased grapes from McLaren Vale. Exports to all other major markets.
