The Cantina del Vermentino cooperative was established in 1956 and today counts over 300 associate producers who together own and tend 500 ha. of vineyards in the Communes of Gallura: Monti, Telti, Olbia and Loiri Porto San Paolo, just inland from beautiful Costa Smeralda (Emerald Coast) in northwestern Sardegna.
The vineyards in Gallura are planted on soils of granitic origin, at elevations of between 300 and 450 m.a.s.l. Gallura benefits from a very mild, appropriately humid climate moderated by its proximity to the sea and year-round winds keep the vines and berries healthy. Most of the annual rainfall occurs inautumn and winter, and the warm to hot summer days are contrasted by cool nights, creating excellent conditions for grape growing.
The wine is fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel and remains in tank until bottling early in the New Year. The aim is to produce a pure yet savoury, complex and textured dry white food wine.
