Enguera is a hilly district set in a mountainous region and cut up by ravines that may be more than 100 m (350 ft) deep.

Geologically, most of its rock formations are sedimentary. There are only rare outcrops of metamorphous or volcanic material.

The principal sedimentary materials are carbonated rocks like limestone, dolomite and calcareous shale. Amongst the secondary rocks there is an abundance of detritics like clays, silts, sands and gravels. Evaporites like gypsum and salts represent a very small proportion.

In the Caroig massif, the limestone that constitutes it favours the formation of underground aquifers, and these are very important for agriculture.

Built of an equal blend of Monastrell (Mourvedré) and Syrah. The grapes are picked at optimum ripeness. They then go through a very careful process of vinification.

Winery Tasting Notes

The colour is a very dark cherry red, brilliant and clean, with beautiful, intense highlights.

A clean bouquet that goes with top quality and hints at ripe red berries, almost like fruit compote. This is given an air of distinction by the toasted, spicy overtone that comes from aging in new French oak barrels.

On the palate these characterful flavours are underpinned by a perfect structure, with the harmony between fruit and wood being outstanding. A wine with smooth tannins and a long-lasting, rounded aftertaste.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

The Perez-Pardo family comes from the Caroig Massif, a rugged, very mountainous area with deep ravines, broad valleys and a very long tradition of wine making.

It is located in the southwest of the Province of Valencia, in the River Clariano district, which comes under the ‘Valencia’ Designation of Origin.

The Bodega was founded in 1999. Its motivation was that of building up a winery entirely based on our own vineyards, so as to produce wines by our own extensive work, beginning with our vines and ending with the satisfaction of the customers who taste our wines.

At present Bodegas Enguera possesses 160 hectares of its own vineyards, distributed between two specific areas. The first lies in the municipality of Fontanars dels Alforins, where we have approximately 60 hectares in the Casa Corones and Casa Lluch properties. The second is in the municipality of Enguera; there we have some 100 hectares located in various properties, the most important of which are the Antolí, Bañona, Benali, Toñuna and Venta Corrales.
