For almost forty years our Bobbie Burns Shiraz has enjoyed a reputation for being of consistently high quality. Our 2009 vintage is a fine example of the style we are seeking.

Winery Tasting Notes

Colour

Dark crimson

Aroma

Complex and expressive with perfumed red berries, a subtle suggestion of ground spice, and attractive regional notes of earth and ironstone that underline the wines origins.

Palate

Typically rich fruit on entry with well ripened blood plum and mulberry characters evident. The wine continues to build weight and texture through the mid palate, with cacao and forest floor notes adding appeal. Supple fruit tannins and spicy integrated oak play a role on the back palate, drawing the wine out to a long satisfying finish.

Cellaring Potential

Our intent with Bobbie Burns Shiraz is to create a wine that drinks well from release, but has the balance and structure to reward long term cellaring. Drink over the coming 8-10 years.

Campbells winery and vineyards are situated in the historic Rutherglen Wine Region of North East Victoria.

Brothers Malcolm and Colin are the fourth generation to carry on the Campbell tradition started by their great grandfather John Campbell in Rutherglen in 1870. Together with their wives Jenny and Prue, they have forged a strong reputation for Campbells as a benchmark Rutherglen wine producer.

The brothers are an ideal team with Malcolm as viticulturist and Colin as winemaker. They have 160 acres of vineyard all within the historic Rutherglen Wine Region and are a true estate grown and bottled operation.

This means we have the ability to nurture our wines from vine to bottle. As Colin says, “Our wines are like our children, we bring them into this world and take great pride and joy in holding their hands and watching them grow”.

Malcolm's approach in the vineyard is quite simple, “Quality even at the expense of quantity is our aim. We assist nature, we don't seek to dominate her.”

Colin believes his role as winemaker is to maximize and protect the natural fruit flavours. His skill is in making wines with structure and balance that can confidently be aged; a hallmark of Campbells Wines.

Today the fifth generation of Campbells is adding their enthusiasm and skills. How excited would their great great grandfather John Campbell be to see this dedication to the Campbell name!
