In 1985 BVE was formed by eighty 3rd and 4th generation grape growers who shared a passion for producing fine wines that truly reflect the character of the Barossa. The Entourage range of wines are testament to the vision of the grape growers, winemakers and the entourage of people who contribute to produce them.

The 2010 vintage saw good budburst and fruit set, followed by favourable growing conditions. January was hot while February was cooler, providing even ripening which was excellent for flavour and colour development. The grapes were picked at optimum maturity having excellent varietal flavour and fine tannin structure.

Expert Reviews

Bright crimson; the bright bouquet is followed by a palate brimming with red and black fruits, fine tannins and subtle oak; a brilliant example of shiraz flavour at modest alcohol, although how a '10 red wine can be a 'cellar reserve' is beyond me.Rating 93 Drink by 2020 - James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2013

Winery Tasting Notes

This wine is full depth red purple in colour.

The nose shows hints of opulent plums, coffee and cedar with a crunch of dark berries and a burst of olive and aniseed.

The palate displays sweet spicy fruit in the mid palate, all plump and juicy. This wine is full bodied and has a melt of oozing tannins to finish. Immaculate.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Barossa Valley Estate (BVE) was formed in 1984 by 80 third and fourth generation grape growers who took control of their destiny by forming a co-operative and produce their own wine. Combining their skills and blending their grapes from across the Barossa Valley, they rode out the hard times and built for the future.

Every BVE wine is made in the reflection of our world-famous E&E Black Pepper Shiraz. Crafted from 100% Barossa Valley fruit our wines highlight the true expression of the richness and character of the region.

In 1984, the consumption of red wine was declining. Offering handsome subsidies, the federal government urged growers to pull out their ancient Shiraz vines and replace them with Chardonnay. But there were 80 third and fourth generation Barossa Valley grape growers who refused. Stubbornness became their strength. Instead of trying to sell the grapes to winemakers for little reward, they decided to take control of their own destiny by forming a cooperative and making their own wine. Barossa Valley Estate (BVE) was formed.
