For years the “Briar Patch” was part of an old stone fruit orchard near Cromwell in Central Otago. It was previously home to acres of Sweet Briar, countless rabbits and even the odd illicit marijuana plot! It’s now a gorgeous vineyard - producing elegant, opulent pinots. The vineyard was established on steep north facing slopes where the terrain is too tough for anything but grapes.
Like the previous crop, the vines are hand-tended and the handpicked grapes from our estate are handmade into wines of exquisite style and grace.
We picked this Pinot on the 9th April 2011, which was a gorgeous autumn day. It took two full days to complete the harvest, but with plenty of help from friends and family, our winemaker was exceptionally happy with the crop, and in turn what we put into bottle.
A classic Central Otago Pinot - low tannin, fruit forward, soft and approachable.
