The 2011 Blue Pyrenees Shiraz is produced from parcels of fruit grown on low-yielding exposed vines creating a wine of intense flavours, naturally soft tannin and the classic rich Shiraz structure. The very cool 2010/2011 growing season provided plenty of rain, but was finished by a season saving mild dry autumn which translated to late ripening for this cool Shiraz vintage . Maturation for 18 months in a combination of new, one, and two-year-old French and American oak barriques has added softness, texture and complexity to a wine of varietal flavours.

Winery Tasting Notes

Bright ruby red.

Black pepper notes over blueberry fruit and a background of cedar and vanilla oak.

The regional blueberry fruit gives way to the classic Shiraz pepper and spice notes and a vibrant mid-palate of chocolate, vanilla, and balanced acidity. The soft tannin structure of this wine allows lingering fruit flavours to shine throughout the long dry finish.

Can be enjoyed now or cellared with confidence for 10 years.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Blue Pyrenees - then called Chateau Remy - was established in Western Victoria in 1963 by Remy Martin. Remy Martin was committed to discovering the superb sparkling wine potential of the worlds cool climate wine regions and in fact subsequently became the force behind Champagne Houses Krug and Charles Heidsieck. Blue Pyrenees Estate was among the modern Australian wine industry’s first ventures into cool climate viticulture. Ample amounts of sunshine ensure our grapes ripen to full maturity with the heat moderated by altitude vineyards and southerly ocean winds. The climate is warm enough to give concentration and power, yet cool enough to give vibrancy and elegance, resulting in remarkable wines from Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Our Estate is surrounded by the picturesque blue-hued Pyrenees range named for its beauty and similarity to the Pyrenees mountains bordering France and Spain, though some think this explorer’s memory of what constituted a mountain may have been distorted by his long voyage across the flat seas of the Pacific!

French eccentricity was the hallmark of the Estate and the brand’s creation. In 2002 the Estate was purchased by a group of Australian wine-passionate businessmen. Eccentricity, with a New World twist, is guaranteed to continue with a new, innovative management and winemaking team at Blue Pyrenees Estate.
