Traditional and contemporary techniques were used to craft this elegant wine, notably barrel fermentation and yeast lees stirring or battonage, which has added both complexity and richness to the vineyard derived fruit flavours. The result is a medium-bodied crisp dry white wine with the classic complex flavour profile sought in great Chardonnay.

Winery Tasting Notes

Straw with bright green hues.

White peach, toasty French oak and barrel ferment yeast complexity dominate the aromas.

Stone fruit and yeast flavours feature strongly on the palate, neatly interwoven with the less obvious cedary French oak and the refreshing grapefruit / mineral finish extends the flavour length and makes a crisp dry style with lingering fruitiness.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Blue Pyrenees - then called Chateau Remy - was established in Western Victoria in 1963 by Remy Martin. Remy Martin was committed to discovering the superb sparkling wine potential of the worlds cool climate wine regions and in fact subsequently became the force behind Champagne Houses Krug and Charles Heidsieck. Blue Pyrenees Estate was among the modern Australian wine industry’s first ventures into cool climate viticulture. Ample amounts of sunshine ensure our grapes ripen to full maturity with the heat moderated by altitude vineyards and southerly ocean winds. The climate is warm enough to give concentration and power, yet cool enough to give vibrancy and elegance, resulting in remarkable wines from Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Our Estate is surrounded by the picturesque blue-hued Pyrenees range named for its beauty and similarity to the Pyrenees mountains bordering France and Spain, though some think this explorer’s memory of what constituted a mountain may have been distorted by his long voyage across the flat seas of the Pacific!

French eccentricity was the hallmark of the Estate and the brand’s creation. In 2002 the Estate was purchased by a group of Australian wine-passionate businessmen. Eccentricity, with a New World twist, is guaranteed to continue with a new, innovative management and winemaking team at Blue Pyrenees Estate.
