Enguera is a hilly district set in a mountainous region and cut up by ravines that may be more than 100 m (350 ft) deep.

Geologically, most of its rock formations are sedimentary. There are only rare outcrops of metamorphous or volcanic material.

The principal sedimentary materials are carbonated rocks like limestone, dolomite and calcareous shale. Amongst the secondary rocks there is an abundance of detritics like clays, silts, sands and gravels. Evaporites like gypsum and salts represent a very small proportion.

In the Caroig massif, the limestone that constitutes it favours the formation of underground aquifers, and these are very important for agriculture.

Built of two varieties with an established prestige, namely Tempranillo and Syrah. The two have acclimatised excellently in our vineyards at Fontanars dels Alforins and Enguera.

Winery Tasting Notes

The colour is vivid, deep cherry, clear, very brilliant, beautiful.

The nose retains the freshness, on a scale that ranges from reminders of violets and roses to hints of lightly stewed fruits. A short aging of barely four months in European oak gives it the special nuance that makes it such a different wine.

Rich, concentrated, persistent mouth feel, as befits a young wine with a pleasant, well-worked tannin flavour. Long-lasting aftertaste in which the scents of the fruit and a slight hint of the wood return to please us.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

The Perez-Pardo family comes from the Caroig Massif, a rugged, very mountainous area with deep ravines, broad valleys and a very long tradition of wine making.

It is located in the southwest of the Province of Valencia, in the River Clariano district, which comes under the ‘Valencia’ Designation of Origin.

The Bodega was founded in 1999. Its motivation was that of building up a winery entirely based on our own vineyards, so as to produce wines by our own extensive work, beginning with our vines and ending with the satisfaction of the customers who taste our wines.

At present Bodegas Enguera possesses 160 hectares of its own vineyards, distributed between two specific areas. The first lies in the municipality of Fontanars dels Alforins, where we have approximately 60 hectares in the Casa Corones and Casa Lluch properties. The second is in the municipality of Enguera; there we have some 100 hectares located in various properties, the most important of which are the Antolí, Bañona, Benali, Toñuna and Venta Corrales.
