As we wanted a Savvy that was indicative of the fresh, Orange style, we sourced the fruit from a naturally cooler vineyard, elevated at 870 metres on the foothills of Mount Canobolas, which allows for perfumed aromatics and fresh flavour.

Ferments are done in stainless steel with wild yeasts. Some vintages have also spent a short time in old oak barrels, further enhancing the characteristics of the fruit.

The wine has a multitude of perfumed aromas, including grapefruit, kiwi fruit, guava juice, a pinch of fresh capsicum, followed by a palate bursting with fresh grapefruit and lemon zest, balanced with crisp acidity and the finish being deceptively soft.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Belgravia is a boutique, family owned label crafting cool-climate wines from their vineyard in the Orange region of New South Wales.

Founded by Sydney businessman and investor Richard Hattersley, the vineyard was first planted in 1996. Although originally planted for contract growing, the first vintage bottled under the Belgravia label was in 2001. For the Hattersley’s, they sensed their place in Orange was an opportunity to be part of something special. They shared a belief, not just in the growing conditions of the region, but in the industry as well.

Twelve years after Belgravia’s first bottling, our portfolio boasts 11 wines, including our highly rated 'The Apex' Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and a 5-star rating by Australian wine critic James Halliday. That initial belief back in 1996 has been vindicated.

The Hattersley family pride themselves as strong ambassadors of the Orange region, with Richard identifying it as “One of the most exciting regions, not just in NSW, but in Australia.” Apart from their own Belgravia label, their previous establishment and involvement of the Union Bank Wine Bar and Wine Store in Orange allowed them to further champion their advocacy, due to an extensive range of Orange wines available by the glass at the Wine Bar, and for retail at the Wine Store. “That’s why people are coming here. They want to taste a range of Orange wines and if we can give them wine by the glass, or by the bottle here in the wine bar when they’re having a meal, or just in here for a drink and a little bit of cheese, that sort of thing, we’d love to do it” said Richard.
