The Belgravia style is a continual standout. Like our other aromatics, it’s down to the cool macroclimate of the Orange region, the slightly warmer mesoclimate of our vineyard and natural ferments with wild yeasts, which yields a wine of balance.

As is customary with Gewürztraminer, our style has intense aromas of rose petal, lychee, almond and Turkish Delight which complement a deceptively contrasting palate, which is crisp with sprinkles of ginger, spice and citrus zesty on the finish.

Expert Reviews

Light straw-green; has exemplary varietal character on the bouquet and palate alike; there are rose petal, musk, ginger and Turkish delight aromas and flavours, yet the wine avoids heavy phenolic notes. Rating 94 - Drink by 2020 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (MAR/2013)

"A very well-made wine with a sweet, tropical nose showing lychee characters. Soft and perfectly balanced dry spicy palate complemented by rose petal and talc tones". 4 and ½ Star - Winestate Magazine

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Belgravia is a boutique, family owned label crafting cool-climate wines from their vineyard in the Orange region of New South Wales.

Founded by Sydney businessman and investor Richard Hattersley, the vineyard was first planted in 1996. Although originally planted for contract growing, the first vintage bottled under the Belgravia label was in 2001. For the Hattersley’s, they sensed their place in Orange was an opportunity to be part of something special. They shared a belief, not just in the growing conditions of the region, but in the industry as well.

Twelve years after Belgravia’s first bottling, our portfolio boasts 11 wines, including our highly rated 'The Apex' Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and a 5-star rating by Australian wine critic James Halliday. That initial belief back in 1996 has been vindicated.

The Hattersley family pride themselves as strong ambassadors of the Orange region, with Richard identifying it as “One of the most exciting regions, not just in NSW, but in Australia.” Apart from their own Belgravia label, their previous establishment and involvement of the Union Bank Wine Bar and Wine Store in Orange allowed them to further champion their advocacy, due to an extensive range of Orange wines available by the glass at the Wine Bar, and for retail at the Wine Store. “That’s why people are coming here. They want to taste a range of Orange wines and if we can give them wine by the glass, or by the bottle here in the wine bar when they’re having a meal, or just in here for a drink and a little bit of cheese, that sort of thing, we’d love to do it” said Richard.
