Suitable for Off Premise, On Premise and Sommelier Selection
This is a luxurious Barossa Cabernet of grand proportions. It has overwhelming intensity, firm tannin structure and outstanding varietal complexity. It’s a showcase of premium low yielding vineyards and hand crafted winemaking skill.
Colour
The colour is deep garnet red with warm earthy hues and a hint of mahogany on the rim.
Aroma
The bouquet is powerful with distinct complexity from five years cellar maturation. It has traditional Barossa individuality with tobacco, cedar wood and smoked meat. The fruit shows black currant, cassis and medicinal herbs. Premium oak is obvious with subtle hints of menthol and rich dark chocolate.
Palate
The multi layered complexity flows through onto the palate opening with cassis, medicinal herbs and cedar wood. The mid palate is weighty and full, dominated by stomping tannins, stewed blackcurrants steeped in brandy spirit and finely integrated oak. The back palate is sophisticated and refined with smoky game, dark chocolate and freshly roasted coffee. The heady alcohol delivers a velvety smooth finish with lingering flavours and gentle drying tannins.
Food Matching
This wine is packed with flavour and substance and rightly deserves a place at grand banquets with suckling pig cooked over a charcoal pit, roast goose and crispy skin duck.
Cellaring Potential
This is another stand out classic from Hans Stockhausen with immaculate winemaking clearly intended for long term aging. This is a fine example of solid Barossa Cabernet from premium, old vineyards.
For nearly three generations the name Stockhausen has been synonymous with the production of fine wine in Australia and Hans Stockhausen wines of the Barossa are no exception. With fruit sourced from old Barossa vineyards and wines produced only if the varietal fruit parcels display outstanding characters, combined with excellent vineyard management and minimal intervention winemaking, resulting wines are limited releases masterpieces with minimal filtration or additives during winemaking.Hans Stockhausen wines take time to evolve and allow all elements to become integrated. The aging process will continue in bottle and over time this wine will develop a light bottle crust. We recommend you allow it to breathe for an hour before consuming or decant.
