Winery Tasting Notes
The colour is opaque inky black with dark purple hues and sticky viscous “legs” that cling to the side of the glass.
The bouquet is powerful and highly concentrated with heady esters and brandy spirit ahead of jammy dark plums, vanilla and quince past. As it opens in the glass there are hints of licorice and dark chocolate. It’s captivating and alluring, demanding you to take the first sip.
The power and weight is immediately obvious with a myriad of sensations confronting the palate. Ripe dark berries, savoury smoked charcuterie and earthy rich spice compete for attention from entry through to the aftertaste. The tannins are grainy dry and assertive with formidable structure and texture. The flavours linger on the tongue and there is a sense of unfinished business until the next sip.
There is an unmistakable Barossa charisma about this wine that suggests large open fires and thick juicy steak with winter vegetables and roasted chestnuts. It’s a wine that commands bold assertive flavours.
This is a solid, powerful wine that’s still showing some of the rugged characteristics of youth. It has an extroverted personality and clearly hints at a sophisticated pedigree. It will develop beautifully with age and needs plenty of breathing after opening. It will benefit from decanting. The screw cap closure will prevent any risk of cork taint but it will need cool dark conditions for extended cellaring. It’s a wine that will survive for a generation.
