Often described as an enigma, Amisfield Pinot Gris manages to tread the fine line between barrel fermented, full bodied Alsatian wine and crisp lively Pinot Grigio.

Made from 4 clones, we treat our pinot gris as we do our pinot noir. Complexity that starts in the vineyard with various soil types and continues in the winery with a number of ferments some wild and in barrel to give depth and palate weight and some in stainless steel tanks to add vibrant fruit and a crisp finish, these components marry into a wine of considerable depth wrapped in a silky, supple texture.

Medium straw in colour.


Aromatics of fresh pear, quince and a pronounced spicy ginger character from the wild barrel ferments. We also see, ever so

slightly, an orange blossom character which seems to be a vineyard specific outcome from our wild ferments.


The palate is long and supple with a flinty mineral finish. The lees stirring during maturation has given a very textual wine with stylish complexity. The wine is very approachable now but will continue to reward with cellaring.

Amisfield Wine Company was established in 1988 and is a Central Otago based specialist producer of Pinot Noir and aromatic white wines created from fruit grown on their Estate vineyard beneath the Pisa Mountain range in the Cromwell Basin.

This privately owned company's 200ha property, once a prominent high country merino station, is one of the largest single vineyard estates in the Central Otago region. Over 80ha is currently planted with the majority of the vines being over ten years old.

Amisfield wines reflect the company's grape growing and winemaking philosophy underlining faithful expression of site, minimal winemaking intervention and ultimate fruit purity. Stringent yield management practices deliver concentrated fruit flavour, consistency and complexity derived from the range of soils found on the vineyard.A state-of-the-art purpose built winery is the focal point of the vineyard and produces 20,000 -30,000 cases of wine annually. Pinot Noir accounts for over 60% of the production with the balance made up of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Riesling.

Wines are showcased at Amisfield's Lake Hayes Bistro and Wine Tasting Room where more than 50,000 New Zealand and international guests sample the range of vintages every year.

Amisfield is an accredited and committed member of the New Zealand Winegrowers' Sustainable Winegrowing Programme centring on a quality management system and environmental sustainability.
