Confusion can often result from wine drinkers regarding the stylistic differences between Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris. To put it simply, Grigio's are based on a Northern Italian style of winemaking where by the grapes are picked earlier and do not see any oak resulting in an aromatic wine with zest and structure. Pinot Gris originated in France and tend to have an oak and/or lees influence with a grey or pink hue. The 2012 Alta Pinot Grigio is true to its intended Italian heritage.

Winery Profile

Sarah Fletcher came to Alta with an impressive winemaking background: a degree from Roseworthy, and thereafter seven years working for Orlando Wyndham. There she came face to face with grapes from all over Australia, and developed a particular regard for those coming from the Adelaide Hills. So she joined Alta, which had already established a reputation for its Sauvignon Blanc. The portfolio has been progressively extended with varieties suited to the cool climate of the Adelaide Hills. Exports to the UK, Canada and Hong Kong.
