Confusion can often result from wine drinkers regarding the stylistic differences between Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris. To put it simply, Grigio's are based on a Northern Italian style of winemaking where by the grapes are picked earlier and do not see any oak resulting in an aromatic wine with zest and structure. Pinot Gris originated in France and tend to have an oak and/or lees influence with a grey or pink hue. The 2012 Alta Pinot Grigio is true to its intended Italian heritage.
