Expert Reviews

Eighteen months in French and American oak. It's cuddly, well-fruited, fresh and well-shaped. It will make many a red drinker swoon. Plums, coffee, dried spice and cloves. Medium-bodied, racy with acidity, refreshing; yet it has some oomph. Rating 92 - Drink by 2021, CM - James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion (OCT/2014)

Winery Tasting Notes

Aroma/Palate

A bouquet of dark cherries, mocha and sweet berries lead to a rich full bodied palate. Lifted spices of cloves and nutmeg are well supported by the hint of white pepper and chocolate.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

In December 2005, the Mathews family acquired the long-established Hopelands Vineyard located in the pristine Margaret River wine region.

During 2006 we decided to completely rework the vineyard, requiring many hours of physical labour.

The vines were cut right back and retrellised resulting in a consequent reduction in yield and significant rise in wine quality.

The After Hours harvest is around 25 tonnes of fruit each year from which we make approximately 1500 cases of premium wine.

The vineyard consists of Cabernet Sauvignon (2.6 ha), Shiraz (1.6 ha), Merlot, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay (1.1 ha each).

After Hours is looking to explore the international market in the near future.
