Viticulture & Winemaking

The warm climate of the Riverland is ideal for ripening grapes to optimum maturity for premium fortified production. Fruit for Anchorage Fine Aged Tawny has been sourced from Angove’s Anchorage and Nanya vineyards and selected local growers.

Anchorage Fine Aged Tawny is a combination of specially selected vintage parcels of varying age. Each component is fermented on skins for a short period, pressed and fortified to strength using grape or premium brandy spirit. Once clarified the wine is stored in small oak casks for many years. At time of blending each individual barrel is assessed for quality and style with only the most outstanding barrels being incorporated into the final blend.

Winery Tasting Notes

Deep Tawny brown in colour.

Aromas of rich fruit cake, roasted nuts and brandy dominate the nose. These are carried through to the palate where they combine with flavours of caramel and chocolate supported by subtle oak. The rich sweetness is perfectly balanced with a drying brandy spirit finish.

Grays Tasting Panel Review

Brand Profile Image

As a 125 year old, multi-generational wine company, Angove Family Winemakers has a strong commitment to sustainability at all levels. With major vineyard holdings across South Australia our links to the land are as strong as ever and our desire to protect and improve this finite natural resource is driving much of our development. Over one third of all company owned vineyards are certified Organic including the Warboys Vineyard in McLaren Vale. This means we grow our grapes with no artificial herbicides, fertilisers or pesticides. At no stage during the grape growing or winemaking processes have we used any synthetic chemicals or inorganic inputs. These are wines as nature intended – pure and clean – crafted with just the gentlest touch from our winemakers.
