A 14-day fermentation was followed by 14 months in French barriques; the bouquet and palate offer full-on no-holds-barred cassis fruit, the oak shouting even more loudly. Needs a few years to settle down. Rating 92 - Drink by 2027 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (SEP/2013)
Winery Tasting Notes
Petaluma Cabernet Sauvignon is a full flavoured, rich dry red, and shows all the spicy, juicy fruit of which the region is renowned.
Aromas of black currants, liquorice cassis and cedar are complemented by a lovely hint of mint.
The palate is big and rich, but also has elegance. Ripe, soft sandy tannins contribute to a generous textural mouth feel.
This wine is a lovely example of the merits of the famed Terra Rosa strips.
An approachable dry red now, the 2012 Cabernet will age gracefully for many years.
