"The Mitchelton winery has always been an interesting place to visit but the estate is about to have a major overhaul. The cellar door is currently being renovated; the restaurant is next, and a 60-odd accommodation complex will be built next year. Mitchelton has been under Lion Nathan control for the past decade or so; it’s now back in private hands. Great to see the estate getting some investment. Rich shiraz. Varietal and regional. Cloves, blackberries, gunsmoke, earth. Eucalypt too. Well balanced, finished and flavoured. It didn’t rock my world but it’s above average quality. Winery Tasting Notes
Intense blueberry, plum pudding and mocha aromas are complexed by a perfumed spiciness.
The wine expands further into the mouth, showing succulent mulberry, dark chocolate and intriguing mineral, earthy notes. Firm, focussed tannins give length and persistence to the palate and ensure the wine will continue to improve over the next 6-10 years.
