The Margan Semillon allows for a touch more ripeness than most Hunter Semillons and whilst this ensures the wine can be enjoyed as a young wine, the great structure ensures its longevity. It is characterised by an intense citrus and lemongrass nose and a generous middle palate with a long, crisp finish.

Expert Reviews

Bright strawberries in the generous mouthfilling style of the Margan Family Wines, the ripe – almost sweet citrus and lemongrass flavours flooding the mouth, yet balanced by the good acidity that gives the wine a drink now or later quality. Rating 94 - James Halliday, (MAR/2013)

It is made from vines planted 40 years ago. Stonefruit, citrus, blossom and dusty aromas are complex and intriguing, while in the mouth, energetic flavours of lemon, lemongrass, wheat and a hint of honey intensity are going on. There’s a touch of spritz – the tiniest amount – which adds to the wine’s freshness. Textural, and with crisp, chalky acidity, it’s a refreshing wine with a citrus and stonefruit drive to the lengthy finish. Food match \ Poached gammon Rating 4/5 - Ben Thomas, Decanter (FEB/2013)

Winery Tasting Notes

Straw in colour

The 2012 Margan Semillon displays a lifted bouquet of citrus with some grassy undertones.

The palate is zesty and sherbet like with enough mid palate weight to balance the seamless acidity.

Enjoy now as a young, racy wine or cellar for another 5 years (and beyond) to appreciate the aged complexities of classic Hunter Valley semillon.
