Winery Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep crimson/red.

Aroma

Attractive aromas of "superripe" Satsuma plum, black cherries and dark chocolate, with a just a touch of "charry" French oak complimenting the concentrated fruit characters.

Palate

Rich flavours of ripe, dark fruits and chocolate abound with very soft tannins, subtle oak and balanced acidity adding length and structure to the finish.

Cellaring

A really good wine from a great vintage. Good to drink now for such a young wine, but will take 6-8 years cellaring without any problems at all.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Pikes Vintners is an iconic family owned and operated winery set amongst the hills and valleys of South Australia's beautiful Clare Valley.

Established in 1984 the winery and vineyards are situated in the historic and picturesque Polish Hill River sub region on the eastern side of the Clare Valley. The climate in this area is cooler and the soils are quite different compared to the rest of the region, imparting distinctive flavours and aromas to the wines.

Pikes is best known for its world class Riesling, but is becoming increasingly recognized for high quality, elegant red wines and their ever popular Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blend. Pikes have also been a leader in planting new and alternative varieties to the district including Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio and Viognier. Pikes also produces Pikes Oakbank- a sparkling Pilsener style beer.

The distinctive English Pike fish appears on all Pikes products.
