Katnook Founder’s Block wines are named in honour of the original land holding of John Riddoch, the founder of Coonawarra. With the Katnook Estate pedigree of ‘Classic Coonawarra’, the Founder’s Block range is styled for everyday drinking, inviting a modern generation of wine drinkers to enjoy the pleasures of Coonawarra wine… people who know what they want and with whom they like to share it. The wines are grounded in the past but genuinely focused on the present.
They are honest, fruit driven, harmonious and shine with pure Coonawarra character.

Katnook Founder's Block has added a varietal Riesling to its range, launching with the 2009 vintage at a retail price of $18. This is the first Katnook Founder's Block wine to bear the new cream coloured label, which will adorn all whites in the range from here on. Winemaker Wayne Stehbens is confident the wine will cellar for at least seven years.Drink Magazine (MAR/2011)

Winery Tasting Notes
Pale straw yellow with light green tinges.
The wine has appealing lemon and lime citrus aromas with subtle floral notes and a pleasurable hint of spice.
A wonderfully poised palate with fresh citrus fruit and crisp zesty acid leading through to a dry and refreshing finish.
This crisp and fresh wine will be a wonderful accompaniment to Thai style fish cakes on a bed of salad and bean-shoots, as a light snack. Try also with a homemade thin-based pizza with grilled chicken pieces, a drizzle of olive oil, a sprinkling of sharp cheese and topped with fresh rocket.
Although the 2009 summer was warmer than usual, ideal ripening conditions though February and March produced above average quality across all varieties in the vineyard.
Harvest of Riesling in mid March was a little earlier than expected and was completed by 23rd March. The grapes were in near perfect condition, disease free with close to optimum ripeness and maturities.
This Coonawarra Riesling is fresh and crisp, ready for immediate drinking but will gain lovely complexity in the short term.
