Barrique offers a complex medley of fresh stonefruit aromas with hints of tropical fruits and smoky grilled nut characters. The palate is seamlessly textured with a creamy mid-palate, leading to a finish extended by harmonious acidity.

The hand-harvested fruit was whole bunch pressed. The free run juice went straight to a mix of 44% new, and the rest to older French Oak barriques for fermentation. While 30% of the wines were allowed to ferment naturally, the other part was inoculated with selected yeast strains. 50% of the parcels also underwent malolactic fermentation. After having matured for another ten months, the wine was minimally fined and sterile filtrated before bottling.

Expert Reviews

"Site selection is key to this most impressive chardonnay. It’s quite tight and controlled, with intense tropical, nutty characters. The fruit and oak integration is excellent, with a lingering intensity."Rating 95 - Ray Jordan, Weekend West (08/DEC/2012)

"... is sourced from two Gisborne vineyards and treated, as the name suggests, to the full array of chardonnay winemaking: whole bunch pressed and barrel fermented with a mix of indigenous and cultured yeasts. Half the wine was put through malo-lactic fermentation. The result is full and rich with a great deal of complexity, bright, perfumed fruit and quite racy acidity. "Tony Harper, Brisbane News (SEP/2012)

"A youthful, lively wine, pale in colour with a combination of apple, citrus and tropical fruit characters and a nice touch of honey with tight acidity. "Rating 4 Stars - Winestate (APR/2012)
