Sourced from the company owned Gimblett Estate and Gimblett Stones vineyards, situated in the Gimblett Gravels sub-region of Hawkes Bay. Soils consist of deep river shingle deposited over time by the Ngaruroro River as it changed course. The exposed greywacke gravel stones absorb and re-radiate heat and are extremely free draining. These are perfect conditions for growing Syrah.
2010 was an exceptional quality vintage for Syrah in Hawke's Bay. An unusually long, cool summer followed by an extremely dry autumn meant the fruit was able to be harvested at perfect ripeness.

"First made in 2002, Homage was the result of a vineyard trial to determine how much extra quality could be gained by reducing grape yield. It was established that quality increased when yield was reduced to one tonne per hectare. Below that, quality didn’t change. Big, rich, velvet-textured syrah with masses of chocolate/mocha, ripe plum and mixed spice flavours. Concentrated, sumptuous wine supported by ripe tannins that suggest great cellaring potential. "Is Hawke’s Bay syrah (shiraz) New Zealand’s greatest wine? Homage has a spicy, gamey nose of plummy fruit suavely dressed in quality, toasty oak. It’s not as big as the nose suggests, but it’s wonderfully profound."
Rating 96 - Ralph Kyte-Powell, Age (29/JAN/2013)
"Hawke’s Bay super premium syrah. Polished off with some Xmas deadlines still outstanding – which slowed things down a tad. It’s an easy wine to be seduced by. So polished, so pure, so robed in sexy oak. Blueberries and black cherries, flings of spice and that sheer coating of smoky, cedary oak. It needs time to present as ‘one’, but its various components have class written all over them. Given the price, they’d want to."

Winery Tasting Notes
2010 Homage could well prove to be the strongest wine of the past decade. Comparisons can be made with the stellar 2002 and 2006 Vintages. 2010 produced a wine that is very powerful and still elegant and fragrant.
A very dense purple colour.
Elements of complex red fruits on the nose. Blackberry and cassis meld with secondary notes of licorice, black pepper and spice.
The wine shows great concentration and weight with a very crucial elegance. The structure is tight and tense which will allow the wine to age gracefully for many years (10+).
More than 10 years.
