Deeply coloured, this is a first class Clare Valley Shiraz, its profound bouquet setting the scene for the medium to full-bodied palate, where blackberry, licorice and cedar flavours rest on a bed of velvety tannins. The power of the wine is deceptive, so perfect is the balance. Rating 96 Drink by 2030 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2015
Winery Tasting Notes
Deep red, crimson hue.
Ripe blackberry, cherry and blueberry with hints of spice, coffee grounds and graphite. Also some attractive grilled meat notes.
The palate is full of ripe berries, chocolate and savory oak, backed up by silky tannins and balanced acidity that provide an excellent structure for graceful ageing.
Another step forward in the evolution of the E.W.P. Shiraz style that is emerging. It has richness and power, but is not a “blockbuster” by any means. Under screwcap this wine will still be drinking nicely in 15 – 20 years time.
Great match with a ripe, soft cheese.
