2009 will go down as one of the best ever vintages in Margaret River. The cool and slightly wet conditions during the initial growing season led to some yield losses. However, the summer months were again dry and warm without any overtly hot spells. Classic "Indian Summer" conditions then prevailed through in to the autumn months giving perfectly ripened and disease-free fruit with some of the most balanced acid profiles ever seen. In a word, superb.

"Bright, clear crimson; estate grown and finished its primary fermentation in new and 1 year old tight-grained barrels, followed by 18 months maturation in those barrels. The oak integration achieved by this method has worked well, for the wine is no more than medium bodied, the fruit vulnerable to any attempt to over extract it. Elegance gets the wine over the line. "Savoury and slightly spicy aromas open things with impressive Margaret River shiraz. The aromas show light perfumed touches with dark fruit characters behind. There’s an intensity on the palate yet the balance carries it effortlessly to a long finish. First-rate wine for drinking over the next five to eight years."Ray Jordan, ‘Top 100 Australian Reds, The West Australian Newspaper Liftout, page 9, 5thJuly 2012
Winery Tasting Notes
Dark cherry red with a hint of magenta.
Sweet mulberry characters with subtle spicy nuances edging in.
Very much a "sweet-fruited" wine with luscious dark berry fruits to the fore. The oak is seamlessly integrated and this wine for mind is more on the medium bodied side of life as opposed to a more traditional full bodied style. Velvet like tannins lead to a gentle, lingering finish. A wine which will mature gracefully for another ten years from the vintage date.
