Overview

Croser was created as it was believed that the right region in Australia could produce sparkling wine to rival

Champagne. That region is Piccadilly in the Adelaide Hills. The first vintage of Croser was released in 1985

and the winemaking philosophy continues today starting in the vineyard where all the vines are hand pruned, the grapes hand picked, the fruit whole bunch pressed, and the wines hand crafted in the traditional method.

Winery Tasting Notes

The 2012 Croser Vintage is an elegant, fine fruit driven complex sparkling wine. The traditional method (Methode Champenois) has guaranteed a delicate persistent fine mousse that explodes on the palate. Ripe raspberry and strawberry from the Pinot and crisp apple from the Chardonnay combine with biscuit and brioche and intense creaminess on the palate. It has a rounded luscious rich palate framed by wonderful integrated acidity that helps accentuate the fine fruit from the Piccadilly Valley.

A fine delicate aperitif style that will reward bottle age, the 2012 is the 27th release of Vintage Croser, first released with the 1985 vintage. It is a wonderful testament to the great vineyards in the Piccadilly Valley from which it is created.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

The unique Piccadilly Valley, 25 minutes from Adelaide behind Mount Lofty, is a cool, high rainfall viticultural region, climatically ideal for the production of Croser.

The Piccadilly Valley was chosen based on the belief that selected cool sites in the valley would produce Pinot Noir and Chardonnay of moderate sugar, high acid and finesse of flavour. Croser matures on yeast lees in the cool cellars of the Bridgewater Mill for two years before remuage and disgorging. The pristine flavours, defining acidity and elegant fruit structure sets Croser apart as one of Australia’s few aperitif style sparkling wines.

Croser is an age-worthy wine so each year a small proportion of each vintage is held back and allowed to mature for ten years prior to release. Croser Proprietors Reserve wines are identified by a red strip entwined in the cigar band, which guarantees the wine has been stored on lees at Petaluma’s sparkling cellars and disgorged prior to re-release to ensure freshness.
