A blend of pinot noir and chardonnay, Croser is a refined, aperitif style that is a reflection of the Piccadilly Valley in the Adelaide Hills. The palate is richly textured with a wonderfully fine and creamy bead, a Croser hallmark.

All of the pinot noir and chardonnay grapes for Croser are grown in Petaluma's Piccadilly Valley vineyards at between 400 and 500 metres ASL, on the cool south and west facing slopes of Mount Lofty and Mount Bonython in the coolest viticultural region in South Australia.

Expert Reviews

"A 62/38% blend; notwithstanding the pinot noir dominance, the colour is bright straw-green; the relatively short period on tirage has resulted in a bracingly crisp and fresh wine, with all of the expected length, but not the complexity that further time on lees would have given. One has to admire its technical elegance, and the quality of the base wine coming, as it does, from the Piccadilly Valley."

Rating 93 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2013

"Has developed attractive complex flavours with an underlying power and intensity driven through to a long finish."Ray Jordan, West Australian (06/DEC/2012)

"An impeccably crafted Adelaide Hills fizz, strategically ducking Champagne pricing. Taut, high altitude Piccadilly fruit is offset by subtle spice of old barrique fermentation. Fine, mineral acidity carries the finish with drive and lemon juice freshness."

Rating 4 Stars - Tony Love, Tony Love (06/NOV/2012)

Winery Tasting Notes

A very fine, delicate mousse reflects the traditional method, fermented and aged in the bottle. Upfront ripe raspberry and a hint of strawberry combine with subtle biscuit aroma to highlight the long bracing acidity on the palate.

A fine aperitif style that warrants some bottle age, the 2009 Croser Vintage is a complex fruit driven sparkling wine, and is reflective

of the vineyards it is grown in and the delicate traditional winemaking employed.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

The unique Piccadilly Valley, 25 minutes from Adelaide behind Mount Lofty, is a cool, high rainfall viticultural region, climatically ideal for the production of Croser.

The Piccadilly Valley was chosen based on the belief that selected cool sites in the valley would produce Pinot Noir and Chardonnay of moderate sugar, high acid and finesse of flavour. Croser matures on yeast lees in the cool cellars of the Bridgewater Mill for two years before remuage and disgorging. The pristine flavours, defining acidity and elegant fruit structure sets Croser apart as one of Australia’s few aperitif style sparkling wines.

Croser is an age-worthy wine so each year a small proportion of each vintage is held back and allowed to mature for ten years prior to release. Croser Proprietors Reserve wines are identified by a red strip entwined in the cigar band, which guarantees the wine has been stored on lees at Petaluma’s sparkling cellars and disgorged prior to re-release to ensure freshness.
