Overview

The grape variety Fiano originates from the province of Avellino in the Campania region east of Naples. The variety takes its name from the Latin 'vitis apiana', as the grapes were so sweet they proved to be irresistible to bees ("api").

Fiano was selected by Coriole when looking for a new southern Italian variety to grow in McLaren Vale, with the first vineyard planted in 2001. The first Australian Fiano was released by Coriole from the 2005 vintage.

Expert Reviews

Light straw-green; has that extra level of mouthfilling intensity in a citrus spectrum that is coming from young vines, and promises so much for the future; the fruit/acid balance is particularly good. Rating 92 - Drink by 2018 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (SEP/2013)
