Winery Tasting Notes

Pale to medium straw with delicate green hues.

The nose shows stone fruits and grapefruit, with subtle oak complexity and a hint of struck-match complexity.

A full-bodied palate with elegant, concentrated stone fruit flavours and a grapefruit pith note on the finish. A fine acid backbone runs through the palate, with oak supporting the fruit but never dominating. Extended time on lees has provided a creamy, integrated mouthfeel and further layers of complexity.

Cellaring Potential

Enjoyable on release, or careful cellaring in the short to medium term will reward drinkers looking for increased complexity.

Food Matching

Great with beggar chicken or veal scaloppini with capers and sage.

Award Winning Winery

Wolf Blass Wines has grown from a humble tin shed to become one of the world's most successful and awarded wineries.

Wolf Blass was created in 1973 when Wolf started his own business, purchasing a 2.5 acre land holding with an old army shed outside Nuriootpa, at the northern end of the Barossa Valley.

In researching the name Bilyara, Wolf learned it was the Aboriginal name for "Eaglehawk" and given the eagle was also the national emblem of Germany, he decided his wines would carry the Eagle - a legacy that continues today and into the future.

Wolf Blass Wines won three consecutive Jimmy Watson Trophies with Black Label, generating substantial publicity and hype. In 1999, Wolf Blass Black Label made history, becoming the only wine to win the coveted Jimmy Watson Trophy an unprecedented four times.

From this time onwards, growth has been impressive and inspiring with Wolf Blass winning a grand total of more than 3,000 awards at national and international wine shows, including most recently, International Red Winemaker of the Year at the 2008 International Wine Challenge in London.

Wolf Blass Wines have a tradition of quality, character and consistency from the refined and elite Platinum Label, and the majestic and complex Black Label through to delicate Rieslings and crisp Chardonnays.

Wolf Blass winemakers are an award winning winemaking team, continuously striving for the ultimate in excellence, character and integrity. The Wolf Blass wine style has always been a unique and highly distinguishable one. Our winemaking teams strong focus on careful fruit sourcing, fermentation, maturation and blending results in lifted vibrant fruit flavours, a soft, rounded palate and well integrated tannins that are the hallmarks of the total Wolf Blass range.

Chief Winemaker Chris Hatcher is widely considered to be one of Australia's leading winemakers and respected wine show judges. A wonderful ambassador for the wines of Wolf Blass and Australia, Chris Hatcher's legacy to Australian winemaking is already monumental.

"The sum of all parts should still be a better result than the quality of each individual part, otherwise why blend at all" - Chris Hatcher Chief Winemaker.
