Expert Reviews

Pikes Traditionale has seemingly evolved to a more generous and ripe fruit style of stone fruits and golden delicious apples in recent seasons. 2012 presents this personality with particular confidence, maintaining a refined lemon juice backbone and showcasing the slatey, mineral texture that characterises Polish Hill River. Rating 92 - Tyson Stelzer, Wine Taste Weekly (SEP/2012)

"Pikes Traditionale riesling this year, as in most, is as pure as you can imagine. Its electric in its natural acidity-driven palate."

Tony Love, Daily Telegraph (14/SEP/2012)

Brilliant pale green colour

Spotlessly clean and quite expressive, displaying citrus florals, apple and subtle notes of stone fruits and slate.

Crisp, fresh and dry, loaded with “waxy” lemon and grapefruit flavours wrapped around a core of well balanced mineral acidity.

Cellaring Potential

Makes a lovely drink as a fresh, young white wine, but will take 5-7 years in the bottle for those who like bottle aged Riesling.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Pikes Vintners is an iconic family owned and operated winery set amongst the hills and valleys of South Australia's beautiful Clare Valley.

Established in 1984 the winery and vineyards are situated in the historic and picturesque Polish Hill River sub region on the eastern side of the Clare Valley. The climate in this area is cooler and the soils are quite different compared to the rest of the region, imparting distinctive flavours and aromas to the wines.

Pikes is best known for its world class Riesling, but is becoming increasingly recognized for high quality, elegant red wines and their ever popular Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blend. Pikes have also been a leader in planting new and alternative varieties to the district including Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio and Viognier. Pikes also produces Pikes Oakbank- a sparkling Pilsener style beer.

The distinctive English Pike fish appears on all Pikes products.
