Starve Dog Lane is out there; following its own nose in an ongoing quest for better grapes and crafting better wines. Always running on winemaking ‘street smarts’, Starve Dog is focused on quality and an innate understanding of wine trends.

With new breeds emanating from the temperate climes of the Adelaide Hills, the warmer, hardier blocks of Clare Valley, and across the more select vineyards of Australia… it’s pure, unbridled curiosity that’s alive at Starve Dog Lane wines; in both the joy of wine… and our ongoing winemaking journey.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

“What constituted a lane, I suppose, was a large encampment of German emigrants who had pitched their tents in a parallel line on the opposite side of the row. They were recent arrivals from Germany by the ships ZEBRA and PRINCE GEORGE, and were the pioneers and founders of the little rural hamlet of Hahndorf.”

Extract from the ‘Adelaide Observer’ September 1, 1888. Vision and conviction nurture innovation. Greatness and character rise from adversity. The Adelaide Hills were settled by pioneers with great foresight and faith. The cool climate and high altitude of the region produce intensely flavoured and finely structured fruit.

Nicholas Bowen, Winemaker

Starve Dog Lane’s Winemaker Nic Bowen is ‘Bred with Cred’. Raised in a well-known WA winemaking family, Nic first explored the world of wine by working in the cellars and vineyards of the estates that his father was managing. He has garnered several prestigious awards and in 2012, he accepted the position as Winemaker at Tintara Winery, further exploring the territory of sparkling, white and red wines. It was a natural move for him to take on responsibility for the award winning Adelaide Hills wines from Starve Dog Lane. Boundless curiosity and great experience mean that Nic will use his skills to pursue the success of these wines for many years to come.
