Petaluma harvests chardonnay fruit from seven distinguished site vineyards in the Piccadilly Valley sub-region of the Adelaide Hills. The result is a very textured wine with lovely lingering acidity.

The Piccadilly Valley has the coolest and most Burgundy like climate of South Australia with free draining, aerobic red soils over Cambrian shales. The Petaluma distinguished site vineyards are closely spaced with vertical canopies and are fastidiously managed with shoot and fruit thinning to achieve very modest crop levels of around 5 to 7 tonnes/hectare.

The Petaluma Piccadilly Valley Chardonnay is a delicate, yet full flavoured wine. Clean bright ripe white peach and nectarine aromas with a hint of gun-flint and smoky bacon, are backed up by a wonderful creamy mouth feel with lovely natural acidity contributing to a wine of great complexity and length.

Probably the most pleasing Petaluma Chardonnay yet, and a wonderful showcase of our magnificent Piccadilly Valley Vineyards.

Winemaker Andrew Hardy

Andrew began with Petaluma in 1982, working and studying his wayup through the ranks as cellar hand, trainee winemaker and finally leadwinemaker. Successfully interweaving practical, ‘in the vineyard’ workwith university studies, Andrew completed his Bachelor of Appl. Sci(Wine Science) at University of Adelaide in 1990. Nominated in August1999 as a finalist in AGT Wine Magazine's Winemaker of the Year award, Andrew is highly respected for his effortless winemaking style,restrained hand in the winery and engaging manner.
