Wild raspberry and plum fruit aromas with spice characterize the wine, with a little vanillin from oak barrels. This is an elegant wine, with firm but not heavy tannin structure. There is great persistence of the wild fruit flavours and licorice on the finish.
"Not the first thing that comes to mind when Hawke’s Bay is mentioned, this bright cassis and purple-cherry-scented tempranillo has an inky, deep colour in the glass. The palate delivers plenty of liquorice and cassis flavour, with some mocha and sweet spice too; a little chocolate to close. "
Rating 93 - The Best of the Rest - Nick Stock, Good Wine Guide 2012
"Very alluring wine with true tempranillo character: violets, purity, minerality and power. Sweet fruit lingers long after the wine has been swallowed. Delicious now but will develop well."
5 Stars - Bob Campbell MW, Australian Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine (NOV/2011)
"Deeply coloured, with a fragrant, leathery bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, with loads of plummy, spicy flavour, still very fresh and vibrant, and a good foundation of tannin. "
4 Stars - Winestate, Michael Cooper, Nick Picone & Phil Bothwell (OCT/2011)
Aroma
Wild raspberry and plum fruit aromas with spice characterize the wine, with a little vanillin from oak barrels. This is a result of fully ripened fruit under our temperate conditions, which does not produce jammy or porty characters as can happen in a hotter climate.
Palate
Malbec adds depth, weight and spice to the wine, increasing the complexity. This is an elegant wine, with firm but not heavy tannin structure. The texture is firm, but with suppleness, almost like a combination of Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. There is great persistence of the wild fruit flavours and licorice on the finish.
Cellaring Potential
The wine will age well for five years or so.
Food Matching
This wine can be drunk with any red meat or pork dishes.
