Expert Reviews

90 Points. "med after some local rapids, this is (again) one of the best of the second tier bottlings. Bright, expressive fruit and lifted aromas, plenty of cherry flavour and finely honed tannins. Approachable and balanced for immediate appeal." Wine Business Monthly (Australia), September 2008

4 Stars. "Central Otago red with bold, youthful colour and an enticingly floral bouquet. Smooth and packed with plummy, spicy flavour in an exuberantly fruity style; delicious young." Winestate (Australia), July 08

Winery Tasting Notes

This wine exhibits a lovely mix of red and black berry fruits with further complexity gained from oak spice. The wine has a sweet berry entry which displays these same characters in abundance. Tannins rise gracefully out of the mid-palate to finish the wine; these are balanced by the wine’s acidity and fruit, to produce a long fruit driven finish.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Mt Difficulty is a boutique winery located in Bannockburn, Central Otago, New Zealand. The Bannockburn area is internationally recognised as one of the few places in the world where the pernickety Pinot Noir variety has found a home outside Burgundy.

The unique microclimate of the Bannockburn area provides hot summers, a large diurnal temperature variation and long cool autumns, which brings out the best of Pinot Noir grapes. This, along with a mix of clays and gravels ideal for viticulture, provides an excellent basis not only for Pinot Noir but also for Pinot Gris, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
