Expert Reviews

93 Points. "Renowned for their Pinot Noirs, Mt D Riesling is among the finest in Central Otago. Super fine, pristine and bright with lime and apple fruits, listing towards tropical nuances of mango and lychee. Clever sugar/acid balance. Superbly refreshing." Wine Business Monthly, Nick Stock (Australia), March 2009

Winery Tasting Notes

Ideal warm dry autumn conditions have resulted in predominantly ripe tropical fruits with an undercurrent of gooseberry producing a Sauvignon Blanc in a typical New Zealand style. The wine displays ripe tropical flavours intermingled with gooseberry and dried hay, this moves into a full mid-palate and then the wine finishes with lingering tropical fruits. This wine is ideal for sensible summer evening drinking.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Mt Difficulty is a boutique winery located in Bannockburn, Central Otago, New Zealand. The Bannockburn area is internationally recognised as one of the few places in the world where the pernickety Pinot Noir variety has found a home outside Burgundy.

The unique microclimate of the Bannockburn area provides hot summers, a large diurnal temperature variation and long cool autumns, which brings out the best of Pinot Noir grapes. This, along with a mix of clays and gravels ideal for viticulture, provides an excellent basis not only for Pinot Noir but also for Pinot Gris, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
