Expert Reviews

4 Stars "Grown at Bannockburn, this is a mouthfilling wine with strong peach, pear and spice flavours, vibrant and finely balanced, with a crisp, dry finish." Winestate, Michael Cooper (Australia), April 2009

"The 2006 vintage was voted top white wine at the Tri-tions Wine Challenge, but this is even better. It has greater concentration of lime/citrus, rose petal and mineral flavours than its excellent predecessor but the same exquisite knife-edged acidity. With 40g/litre residual sugar, the wine offers a sweet first impression that quickly transforms into a tingling dry finish. The precious Bannockburn vineyard that produced this wine must some day be recognised as a tiol treasure. Every vintage is excellent, 2007 the best yet." Gourmet Traveller WINE, Bob Campbell MW (Australia), February 08

Winery Tasting Notes

Floral and ripe stonefruit notes compete in the aroma of this Riesling. On the palate these flavours dance in harmony. Residual sugar (40gL-1) has been retained to balance the high natural acidity. This residual sugar has also fleshed out the mid palate of the wine. This wine will richly reward those who can cellar it.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Mt Difficulty is a boutique winery located in Bannockburn, Central Otago, New Zealand. The Bannockburn area is internationally recognised as one of the few places in the world where the pernickety Pinot Noir variety has found a home outside Burgundy.

The unique microclimate of the Bannockburn area provides hot summers, a large diurnal temperature variation and long cool autumns, which brings out the best of Pinot Noir grapes. This, along with a mix of clays and gravels ideal for viticulture, provides an excellent basis not only for Pinot Noir but also for Pinot Gris, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
