Winery Tasting Notes

This Chardonnay really speaks to the very warm growing season, with tropical melon and pineapple being backed up by a lovely minerality.

The palate displays lovely ripe peach characters, moving into a mid palate with an excellent creamy texture and weight from extended lees contact and barrel ageing. The natural acidity provides a backbone which the fruit flows through.

Winemaking Notes

The grapes for this wine come from three of our vineyards; Long Gully, Mansons Farm and Templars Hill. The fruit was harvested in peak condition, cool and handled in an oxidative fashion.

We fermented 100% of the juice in barrel. The juice went to barrel with full solids. The barrel fermented wines were stirred initially fortnighly, then monthly over winter and then weekly again over summer. The wine went through partial malolactic fermentation. The wine was racked from barrel, lightly fined with Isinglass and filtered before being bottled.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Mt Difficulty is a boutique winery located in Bannockburn, Central Otago, New Zealand. The Bannockburn area is internationally recognised as one of the few places in the world where the pernickety Pinot Noir variety has found a home outside Burgundy.

The unique microclimate of the Bannockburn area provides hot summers, a large diurnal temperature variation and long cool autumns, which brings out the best of Pinot Noir grapes. This, along with a mix of clays and gravels ideal for viticulture, provides an excellent basis not only for Pinot Noir but also for Pinot Gris, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
