Expert Reviews

"""Here’s another reason why the Kiwis have a stranglehold on sauvignon blanc sales in Australia. From theWairau Valley it’s a multi-trophy winner, packed with bright tropical and gooseberry fruit, herbaceous characters and a zesty acidic backbone. "" Illawarra Mercury, Quench Kerry Skinner, 23 Feb 13

"This is & wonderfully consistent offering from Marlboroughs Wairau Valley, Brimming with Tropical fruit flavours, gooseberry end herbal aromas, and a lively and crunchy acidity." ABC Delicious (MAY/2013)

Winery Tasting Notes

Fleshy tropical melon, guava, ripe gooseberry aromas leap from the glass in the first instance, followed by the more elegant refined herbaceous ripe green smells of fresh fennel, tomato leaf, coriander and nettles, all bundled together with citrus lime to deliver the full aromatic spectrum of what ‘great’ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc can offer.

The palate is intense, soft and inviting with succulent crunchy acidity and delivers line with salty sinewy phenolics giving structure and textural weight – Another remarkable Wither Hills ‘Wairau Valley’ Sauvignon Blanc!

Food Matching

A perfect match with plump oysters, green lip mussels, even prosciutto and rock melon. Or simply on the deck with great company and repartee.

Established in 1994, with vineyards strategically sited throughout Marlborough’s Wairau Valley, Wither Hills has always been dedicated to the philosophy that exceptional wines are ‘created in the vineyard’.

Named after the southern landmark range of Wither Hills that border our vineyards, our focused, hands on approach to winegrowing allows us to make a range of wines that reflect our passion for the ‘place where we stand’.

Winemaker Ben Glover

Ben Glover grew up among the vineyards of Marlborough and has worked at Wither Hills since its establishment almost ten years ago. In April 2007, he was appointed Chief Winemaker for the winery providing him with the opportunity to lead the award-winning winemaking team at Wither Hills.

He has a wealth of wine growing and winemaking experience across New Zealand and has worked internationally in Sonoma in California, Margaret River in Western Australia, Burgundy in France, and Puglia in Italy.

His particular passion is Pinot Noir, and the international accolades earned for the Wither Hills Pinot Noir are a reflection of Ben’s devotion to his craft.

His selection as the New Zealand representative scholar for the inaugural Len Evans tutorial in 2001 and his extensive experience as an international wine judge are testaments to his dedication to quality wine – both winemaker and as an appreciative wine drinker.
