Expert Reviews

Light to medium garnet; ripe red fruits with a touch of spice, a little closed, quite delicate; great palate, layered and complex with plenty of drive and intensity; tight core of red fruits with crunchy acid to balance; well crafted almost detailed, impressive length.Rating 17 - Chris Crawford, www.pinotunearthed.com.au (08/DEC/2010)

Bright red fruit bouquet, with cranberry and a touch of geranium and spice in evidence; the fruit is ample and quite crunchy on the palate, with a silky expression of tannin and fine acidity drawing out the elegant and precise conclusion. Ben Edwards, www.pinotunearthed.com.au (08/DEC/2010)

Forward, quite generous and appealing aromas of fragrant red fruits and cake spice; palate is pleasant making it very appealing; the acid line cleanses and drives the wine; a well constructed and appealing example.Dan Smith, www.pinotunearthed.com.au (08/DEC/2010)

Winery Tasting Notes

Aroma

This wine has an aromatic bouquet of ripe cherries and raspberry fruits - hallmarks of Marlborough Pinot Noir.

Palate

On the palate the wine displays ripe fruit with complex savoury and spice elements. Soft, silky rounded tannins provide structure and definition, yet also allow for the wine to show pure fruit expression, allowing it to be consumed young.

Cellaring Potential

This wine can be enjoyed now but with careful cellaring will develop for another five to eight years.

Winemaking Note

Cold soak techniques were used to optimise fruit expression prior to fermentation. Temperatures were allowed to reach 32»C to add complexity and structure. Post pressing, the majority of the wine went directly to oak barriques, whilst the remaining wine spent an extended time in tank on lees. A total oak maturation period of ten months occurred before the wine was blended, filtered and bottled.
