Overview

This wine, and Sangiovese in general, is one of the ideal companions for grilled veal, pork or lamb – any food with a bit of fat or oil. Any pizza lovers in the audience? Look no further, your choice is made.

Cellaring for a few years is not a problem either – 3-5 years will not hurt this wine one bit.

Winery Tasting Notes

Colour

Medium density, bright red.

Aroma

Quite typical characters of dark cherry, cranberry and damp earth are all on display here. Also just a hint of dried wild flowers evident too.

Palate

As always, the fine drying tannins and cleansing acidity are features of this quite juicy, cherry & cranberry flavoured palate. Sangiovese is always more savoury than sweet in its profile, the tannins and acid combining to give length and drive.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Pikes Vintners is an iconic family owned and operated winery set amongst the hills and valleys of South Australia's beautiful Clare Valley.

Established in 1984 the winery and vineyards are situated in the historic and picturesque Polish Hill River sub region on the eastern side of the Clare Valley. The climate in this area is cooler and the soils are quite different compared to the rest of the region, imparting distinctive flavours and aromas to the wines.

Pikes is best known for its world class Riesling, but is becoming increasingly recognized for high quality, elegant red wines and their ever popular Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blend. Pikes have also been a leader in planting new and alternative varieties to the district including Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio and Viognier. Pikes also produces Pikes Oakbank- a sparkling Pilsener style beer.

The distinctive English Pike fish appears on all Pikes products.
