"The Sandalford Element Chardonnay 2010 was the value chardonnay highlight of the past month. This time, it is the Element Chardonnay and this year it is from 40-year-old Margaret River vines. In a one-off, Sandalford has used fruit for this Element Range that is usually set aside for its premium chardonnay labels, and the impact on quality is striking. It is very young but still delicious drinking now, and fresh, dry and fruity without too much astringent oak to help it develop over some years. The winemaking too, is impeccable. One of the few reasonably-priced chardonnays that you can taste the varietal chardonnay flavours and this has to be very close to the finest available at under $15. Perfect summer drinking for either yourselves or your older children." Rating 17 - John Jens, www.inmycommunity.com.au (04/JAN/2011)
Winery Tasting Notes
Truly varietal Chardonnay with white stone fruit coming though. Super clean nose showing elegance and restraint.
Very much the modern style with no oak, delicate palate weight and texture, pristine fruit flavours and a perfect finish. Best Element Chardonnay ever! Serve cool.
The fruit for this wine was machine-harvested in February during the cool of the night. The fruit was immediately processed and underwent a long, slow ferment in stainless steel tanks with a number of selected yeast strains. At the end of fermentation the wine was immediately blended, stabilised, filtered and bottled.
