Expert Reviews

"The Sandalford Element Chardonnay 2010 was the value chardonnay highlight of the past month. This time, it is the Element Chardonnay and this year it is from 40-year-old Margaret River vines. In a one-off, Sandalford has used fruit for this Element Range that is usually set aside for its premium chardonnay labels, and the impact on quality is striking. It is very young but still delicious drinking now, and fresh, dry and fruity without too much astringent oak to help it develop over some years. The winemaking too, is impeccable. One of the few reasonably-priced chardonnays that you can taste the varietal chardonnay flavours and this has to be very close to the finest available at under $15. Perfect summer drinking for either yourselves or your older children." Rating 17 - John Jens, (04/JAN/2011)

Winery Tasting Notes

Pale lemon.

Truly varietal Chardonnay with white stone fruit coming though. Super clean nose showing elegance and restraint.

Very much the modern style with no oak, delicate palate weight and texture, pristine fruit flavours and a perfect finish. Best Element Chardonnay ever! Serve cool.

Winemaking Notes

The fruit for this wine was machine-harvested in February during the cool of the night. The fruit was immediately processed and underwent a long, slow ferment in stainless steel tanks with a number of selected yeast strains. At the end of fermentation the wine was immediately blended, stabilised, filtered and bottled.

Red 5 Star Winery James Halliday, Austarlian Wine Companion 2011 Edition

"RED 5 STAR WINERY – Sandalford is an outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity.”

Australia’s most pre-eminent wine critic, James Halliday, awards Sandalford Wines the very coveted RED 5 star rating in the Australian Wine Companion 2011 Edition.

Sandalford Wines was established in 1840 and is today privately owned by the Prendiville family.

In the early 1970’s Sandalford was one of the pioneers in establishing vineyards in the Margaret River planting 96 hectares in the sub region of Wilyabrup. It is this old, dry grown vineyard that is the source of the Prendiville Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and the Estate Reserve range of wines. These wines under the winemaking expertise of Paul Boulden are superb examples of Margaret River at its best, winning praise from notable wine writers and a series of trophies and gold medals at both national and international wine shows.

A new addition to the Sandalford portfolio is the Margaret River Range of wines positioned at the “midprice point” of today’s premium market. It is the fastest growing segment of the wine market and with Sandalford’s world class resources in Margaret River, this range has been developed to tap into this consumer trend. The wines are sourced from a combination of the Sandalford Estate and other premium vineyards in the Margaret River with wine styles reflecting current consumer tastes for vibrant, up front varietal flavours.
