Shiraz is a great tradition in McLaren Vale, dating back to the 1850's.
Lloyd Reserve Shiraz is produced from a single vineyard at Coriole that was planted in 1919 and the first wine released in 1989.
The soil and roots are extremely deep and generally no irrigation is required. The wine is matured in French oak for approximately 18 months and then receives 12+ months in bottle before release.

"Dense and powerful, with masses of dark berry fruit merged seamlessly with stacks of oak. Its a lush, opulent style, with deep and concentrated flavours. The tannin profile is firm to balance and support the generous, rounded fruit. A dark essence of shiraz that will last for years. "Rating 96 - Ray Jordan, Weekend West (AUG/2012)
Deep crimson; a massively full-bodied wine, shrouded in dense, dark fruits, the tannins and oak providing no release; the wine is balanced, but really has to be left for no less than 10 years to reduce it to manageable proportions. With the parameters of its style, very good. Rating 94 - Drink to 2040 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (MAR/2012)
"Mark Lloyd makes this wine, dedicated to his father Hugh, from a block of shiraz planted in 1919. The old, deep-rooted, unirrigated vines produce wines of remarkable colour and flavour concentration. Despite its dense colour, powerful flavours and mouth-coating tannin, Lloyd Reserve remains approachable – a big, juicy, savoury, earthy, harmonious red of great individuality. It’s the sort of wine to savour in its own right – say with a chunk of Silo bread and nothing more. Grandeur needs affirmation, not company."5 Star - Chris Shanahan, www.theage.com.au (JUL/2012)
